Signs and Perlocutions

These are funny. The pooping bird sign might yield the reaction of taking shelter with the response of "Ew, Gross!" The red light sign (very odd), might yield the reaction of running the red light with a response of "What the heck is going on with this light?" And the most obvious sidewalk ending sign would of course yield the response of "Well, DUH I can see that!" with a reaction of stopping.

[this is good]

I love these signs.. Growing up, my siblings and I were very literal. When traveling down the highway in CA my mom could not understand why every few miles we would say "BOX".. until she noticed that every few miles there was a sign that said "Call Box" on the side of the highway. IT was placed there for emergencies but we could not resist it - we were 14, 11, and 8.

Another sign, or marking that caught my mom offguard was the marking "Stop Ahead". It's usually painted on the road a few hundred feet away from a stop sign. It finally hit her that was why when we came to stop sign our hands were on each others heads. We would reach over and place our hands on each other heads to "stop" them.

We had lots of laughs as kids!

i was just thinking about the different traffic signs around town and how often we don't pay much attention to them--for example i always turn right even though there may be a sign that says "no turn on red". or the "no turn on red mon-fri 7am-5pm". if i saw that bird one i would definitly cover my head asap. no one would wait at a red light forever in the hopes of it turning green when it says it never turns green. its funny how we become accostomed to driving and all these different signs. (although, not these signs!)
