I've dyed my hair....

A girl I work with is constantly dying her hair and asking "do you like my hair". Yesterday she attempted to bleach the blue dye out of her hair and now has multi-colored hair, gray in spots, blue and pink in others, and even a few streaks of blonde and green.

Some of the responses I have heard are,

Wow, it's different. CONSIDERSATION?? Quality, Quantity, Manner

Rainbows cheer me up! Relevance? manner, quantity

Like, is a strong word.

It looks "nice". Manner, quality

Someone handed her a card for their hairdresser.

Someone simply said, WELLLLLL manner

My hair turned purple one time. relevance?

Isn't it funny how one question can encourage so many different people to flout so many different maxims. I wonder if she was seeking agreement.

I never understood why people dye their hair especially a color of the rainbow. Some of the responses are comical and like you have pointed out violate the maxim of manner because they are too ambiguous, lol. I love the "WEEELLL" comment. I disagree with the last one where someone says they turned their hair purple because to me that is relevant. I think it might be more a politeness maxim than conversational such as using the consideration maxim to minimize the discomfort of the both of them by expressing common experiences. However, it seems to me that it violates the manner maxim as well because they are being ambiguous. That is, did they say that to tell the person that they think purple is cool or to imply "I know how you feel cause I was an idiot too once when i dyed my hair" telling they don't like it.

one time a girl handed me her card and she was a hairdresser, i wasn't sure whether she was trying to promote her services or say i need some work done to my hair. obviously saying nothing still says something. maybe she was trying to say both, who knows. in your case i think maybe she wanted the array of answers and responses from everyone. it's pretty funny though
